About Me

Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

NEOS LOG
October, 2011

October was a hot month here in Costabaja Marina. We continued to be one of the very few cruisers living aboard in the marina, if not the only ones.

We spent the first 2 weeks of October on that familiar list, “Boat Projects”. My goal for the month was to make some videos for You Tube to showcase NEOS. That meant taking lots of pictures and cleaning as I went. Nothing was left untouched. Every single locker, every compartment got cleaned. In addition, we waxed the outside of the hulls. I don’t think we will ever do that project away from a dock again. It made it so much easier!! And as long as we only worked a couple of hours at the beginning or end of the day, the heat was bearable. We even scored at the downtown hardware store and found some new pads that will fit the Meguiar’s buffer we have.

All work and no play….we did take some time away from projects to head into town and meet up with our friend from Puerta Vallarta, Naomi. We met one time for tea and bagels at a cute little place near the cathedral. Then we spent some time exploring the bookstores and shops around the plaza. Another time we met at the Farmer’s Market and I found some mangoes! Andrew returned from a trip to Canada and we enjoyed a lunch on NEOS catching up with him.

With one week left before we were to leave the marina, we were on hurricane watch with Jova coming up the coast. Luckily for us, it hit mainland just below Puerta Vallarta and the Sea has enjoyed a full summer without any strikes. We rented a small truck a couple of days before our departure and spent most of the day filling up a storage unit we rented neat Marina La Paz. We emptied the boat of as much junk as we could. Most of it is stuff we no longer need on the boat but want when we return to land life. So it is out of our way and Neos is feeling light and happy. We took advantage of having wheels and made a trip to Home Depot and WalMart as well.

Fully provisioned and cleaned, NEOS headed out of Marina Costabaja on October 15 and anchored in Caleta Lobos. It was like a bit of heaven having fresh breezes and our big backyard again! We enjoyed the next week and a half with daily swims. Almost every night we were visited by swarms of mobula rays that made so much splashing as they fed around the boat that it was hard to get to sleep.

We took hundreds of pictures of the boat inside and out and I worked on a number of You Tube videos. By October 25, I was ready to post and we headed back to La Paz. Andrew and Naomi were still in their slip at Marina La Paz and had us over for a delicious strogonaff dinner and great political/social/economic discussion. We almost solved all of the problems of the world, but not quite! I spent 3 mornings at 5th Avenida Coffee Shop uploading videos and catching up on internet and email errands. So now there are lots of ways for you to see NEOS. If you go to You Tube and search for “Neos Catamaran”, there are 2 videos by the builder about the construction and launching of NEOS and there are 4 that I posted. There is a tour of NEOS, Neos Plays with Dolphins and a two part Neos and the Cruising Lifestyle. In addition, I updated our website neosforsale.com . No shortage of pictures of Neos! I have been working on that project for so long, I don’t quite know what to do with my time now. But I am glad that all is posted and we can resume our relaxing lifestyle again.

Since we won’t be back to La Paz until mid November, I posted the October log a few days shy of the end of the month.
