About Me
- NEOS
- Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

March, 2013
We started the month off with La Paz Yachts bringing over a prospect. Michael had told us earlier in the week that he would be bringing a couple by on Saturday. Good thing…we were having a strong northerly Friday. So I was cleaning up the place on Friday when he called and said. “They’re here”. Guess he got his days mixed up. He braved the waves and brought over Bob and Linda, a couple from St. Augustine, Florida. They were vacationing in Los Barilles and came up to see Neos. A really nice couple ready for the cruising life again and anxious to leave the States. They spent a couple of hours aboard and asked good questions. They seemed to be interested, but have to sell their home in St. Augustine first.
Once the winds died down, Will from Techs Mex was able to come over and look at our mast lights. For three years we have been trying to find someone to fix the photovoltaic nav/anchor light at the top of the mast. We get either nav lights or anchor lights, but not both. They both actually worked for a month or two after the guy in Puerto Vallarta looked at it, but the guy at Costa Baja who worked on it for hours 2 summers ago couldn’t get it to work. Will climbed the mast and toyed with it, then dismantled it and brought it down to look at. His first guess was that there was an internal problem, but then he looked at the manual more closely. He saw that one of the wires was switched. Once he got them correctly wired, everything worked!! Back up the mast to install it and we are good to go. Nice to have that working correctly again. Just had to find the right guy.
We aren’t used to staying so long at anchor off of La Paz, but our boat buddies, Russ and Janet on Rock N Roll have been trying to get a surgery done on Russ through the national health program. After months of being put off, he was finally told that seguro popular would not cover the surgery. We hooked him up with our private doc, Dr. Tuchmann who saw him the next day. By that afternoon he had seen a surgeon and was scheduled for surgery the following Monday. Long story short; he had a successful surgery and is doing great! But during these past months, they decided to put their boat up for sale and head home for good. They stayed in Marina Don Jose so we decided to stay put until they leave. With them planning to leave for good, they started cleaning our lockers and got me in the mood. I ended up cleaning all of the storage lockers on NEOS. I threw out three garbage bags of junk and took another 3 bags to the March swap meet. That got Rog motivated and we cleaned out the storage locker, adding a bunch of stuff to our swap meet pile of goodies. We took everything over to Rock N Roll and stacked it on the dock the day before the swap meet. That made it easy to haul everything up the ramp the next morning, since the swap meet is in Marina Don Jose. Russ N Janet made out like bandits, but they had nice stuff they were selling. Even with our junk, we made a couple hundred. So not too shabby.
It is obviously spring in the anchorage here. The birds are everywhere and the waters are full of krill and schools of baby fish. It was difficult making water. Rog had to clean out the intake pump a couple of times to remove fish that got stuck in it. And he was covered in krill when he got in the water to clean the props. We even got one of the small critters in our toilet bowl and a cormorant stayerd on our back step to fish.
We ended March with another visit from prospects. Lee and Amber Moorer were vacationing in Las Barilles with sons Samson (4) and Boone (6). We made plans to pick them up at the beach in Ballandra on Monday the 25th at 10am. We headed out to Caleta Lobos for a couple of days, then motored around to Ballandra that morning. We waited off the beach in the dinghy until past 11, then headed back to NEOS. Sure enough, there were emails from the Moorers apologizing. The boys had both been sick and they had to head back to Las Barilles. We planned to try for the next day, so Rog and I braved the Ballandra overnight winds and stayed put. They arrived only a bit late the next morning (underestimating the time it takes to get to Ballandra from Barilles) and spent most of the day enjoying Neos.

They had lunch with us and even braved the water for a swim. The boys were delightful…full of questions and so curious! A delightful family…perfect for Neos. Unfortunately, they stopped at McDonalds on the way back south and Lee and Sam got some salmonella food poisoning. MAJOR bummer. But they were happy and healthy on NEOS.
We stayed another night at Ballandra, then headed back to the La Paz anchorage for a small Easter celebration on Rock N Roll. I found an idea on Pinterest for some special deviled eggs and made them without mayonnaise so that Janet could eat them. We will miss these guys!!
