About Me

Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

February 2014

The new house continues to be our focus. We are enjoying this daily 8-5 routine and are getting lots done. Rog focused on the ceilings in the family room and kitchen. He removed a large rectangle in the center of the family room and rebuilt the trusses so that he could recess that portion of the ceiling. We saved the insulation that fell out so we could reuse it.

In the kitchen, he removed the lowered ceiling, added a skylight and built the framework for the skylight “tunnel”.

Halfway through the month, his new toy arrived: a Powermatic Table Saw. A monstrous piece of machinery, it took him a few days to assemble and rewire the electric circuitry in the garage for it. With a set of new blades, he got to work on the frame for the recessed ceiling. It cut so smooth and easily!!! Pretty nice.

Meanwhile, I finished painting both bathrooms and started in on the craft room. I repainted the overhead kitchen bar cabinets to install in this room and then painted the walls. I think I am going to enjoy working in this room. It is bright and relaxing. And it now has lots of storage.

By the 15th, we had accumulated so much junk on the side of the house, we couldn’t stand it. We thought of getting a dumpster, but for just a bit more, we hired a trash hauler who came and loaded his dump truck and hauled it all away. It took him two loads. Meanwhile, I had advertised the cinder blocks on Craigslist and a couple came by to haul them away. Turned out to be about 150 of them and they are now gone.

The month started out with Max’s birthday. He had a “camp” party in the back yard. I wish we could tap into the energy of kids! Two hours and I was amazed at the energy of 10 kids. I don’t think they stopped moving once. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time. Michelle and Eric did quite a good job with the theme, from the fabricated welcome sign on the front door to the campfire in the back yard.

Rog treated me to the play “Flashdance” at the Sacramento Community Theater. It was well done, even including the water dance she did on stage.
I spent a week calling in for jury duty and was, luckily, never summoned. Welcome back to the States. Honestly, I would have been glad to serve.
Rog went to Carpenteria with 2 of his Shotokan buddies for a SKA meeting at their headquarters. They spent a couple of nights and I did what every good SKA widow would do while they were gone….I went shopping:)

We joined the Blooms for a Valentine's Day treat and went to see Disney on Ice at the Sleeptrain Arena. We all fit in the Silverado and the kids did great with the late night and crowds. It was a good show and it included Karissa's favorite princess, Belle. So a success. The next week, Rog treated me to breakfast at the Granite Grill for our own Valentine treat.

At the end of the month, we had our date with Karissa and went to the Sacramento Children’s Museum. After months of no rain, the storm window is now open and we have had a bit of rain. Turns out, a lot of moms bring their kids to the museum on rainy days. It was pretty crowded, but plenty of room for everyone. We played for about 2 hours, then went out to lunch at Habit Burgers before getting Karissa back home. Fun day!
