About Me

Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

March 2016

Prepping the front yard and finishing Tess...still the major projects.
We rented the rear tine tiller from Home Depot and tilled thre front yard. Two weeks later, we rented it again and did a second run at the yard.

Then Rog tried to remove the front sidewalk by himself but soon realized it was way too difficult to do by hand. So I searched Craigslist, made a few calls and we had a guy here the next day. He had a backhoe and dump truck. $300 and four hours later, the sidewalk was history.

The next step was to relocate the Japanese Maple. Anyone who comes to our front door has to duck under it to get to the front door. It was just not in a good spot. I spent a few hours every day chopping around the root ball. Rog would periodically hack away at it too. Finally it budged and was loose. But it was way too heavy for either of us to drag. We toyed with hiring our neighbor, Larry, and his Jeep. But we finally hooked it up to the van and hauled it to its new spot.

Then we rented a trencher and tried to prepare the sprinkler lines. After an hour, the unit died. We restarted it once, but when it died a second time, the starter rope broke. We were able to get it into the van by using the driveway slope...barely. But Bret at Home Depot was full of apologies and gave us half off a replacement rental the next day. This time we upgraded and got a bigger unit. In 2 hours, the sprinkler trenches were done and the stream bed roughed out.

Meanwhile, Rog finished the bed/benches for the van, We bought a queen sized memory foam mattress and cut it to fill the cushions. When I started making the cushions (and the same day the trencher broke) my trusty sewing machine conked out.. We took it up to Joseph in Auburn and borrowed Michelle’s. I started the cushions and finished the one shade I had never finished.

Micki drove me to Fairfield where we met Laur for lunch. I can’t remember the last time we have done something like that. Nice to have Laur close by. March was the month for Karissa’s date. We went out for pizza at lunch and then headed over to the Temperance Hall for the Rocklin Theatre Production of Cinderella. Karissa sat on Pops’ lap the entire performance and loved it. She insisted on seeing Cinderella after the show to tell her that she was beautiful. Rog and I were impressed with the singing and acting...really quite good!

We treated ourselves to an afternoon at the Harris Center and saw the Tao Drummers, Seventeen Samurai. What a treat! The Harris Center is so easy to get to and the hall was gorgeous. It is on the small side so all of the seats are great seats. We will definitely be going back.

Ryan and Beth came over on Easter Saturday and chatted with me for a while, then took Rog with them to the shooting range. He is still trying to decide what kind of pistol to buy and was proud of his target, which is now hanging up in his workshop.
The next day, Rog played Easter bunny and hid a couple dozen eggs for the kids to find. The Blooms came over for the hunt and Easter lunch.

For our project this month, the kids made frogs out of empty toilet paper rolls. Each frog had a string with a bug on the end. The idea is to hold the frog and toss the bug in the air and try to catch it in the frog’s mouth. They each made three and they turned out really cute.

We were lucky enough to have two project days this month. Michelle brought over dye for coloring eggs and Rog and I blew out 2 dozen eggs. The kids decorated and colored all of them. They left for their annual trip to San Diego and got back in time for the hunt on Easter Sunday.
