At the beginning of the month, the front yard was ready for plants.
We made a trip to Green Acres Nursery and picked out about 75% of the plants. We arranged to have them delivered in a few days. Then it took us a few days to get them all planted. The following week we headed to the Roseville Green Acres and got another 25% of the plants. What we couldn’t find, we ordered online through Monrovia to be delivered to the nursery. By mid May, all plants were in the ground with only one plant still backordered. Rog wired the controller and we had automated watering… but for only 2 of the 6 zones. I fiddled with the programming for a week and finally gave up. I ordered a new controller from Amazon that worked via WiFi and it worked great. Just in time for the 100 degree weather that hit at the end of the month. To top it all off, Ryan brought back our doorbell gong that he has taken care of since we left to go cruising.
Meanwhile, work on the van continued. Rog finally found a great guy in Auburn who looked at the electric panel and found one wire hooked up wrong...and didn’t even charge him for it! Rog fixed the wire and Voila!! Our electric system worked. After Yosemite, he had to modify the drawers he had already made so that they wouldn’t open while we are driving. He finished making the doors for the cabinets as well as a few more drawers. .
Once the plants were in the ground, I tackled the playhouse. It was full of cobwebs and was pretty shabby. The grandkids didn’t even want to go in it. I spent 2 days cleaning it, then the rest of the week repainting. I was really pleased with the end result. Ryan came by and helped Rog carry the old van bench out for their playhouse couch. I restocked the shelves and it is ready for grandkid inspection.
The first weekend of the month was the Kentucky Derby. My sister, Micki, and husband, Brian, hosted a Derby party. The fact that I was in charge of the betting had nothing to do with the fact that I won with Beth. We split the $12.00 pot by correctly picking the first, second and third place finishers. TRIFECTA! We enjoyed a great lunch and relaxing afternoon. The next day, Eric hosted a Mother’s Day BBQ with fajitas. A beautiful day.
Then we babysat for Max while Eric and Karissa went to the school father-daughter dance. A first school dance for both of them!
The following weekend, Michelle was working and Eric had to stay home with a sick Karissa. So I took Max to his scout advancement ceremony. He was picked to help present the colors and then crossed the bridge to become a Webelo II. Rog went to a BBQ for a karate friend so wasn’t able to join us.
We celebrated Michelle’s semester-end (with straight A’s!) by taking her out to lunch. We finished the month off with a date with Karissa. After lunch at Islands Restaurant, we headed to Rancho Cordova to spend a few hours playing in the Sacramento Children’s Museum. On the way home we stopped for an ice cream.
