We started the month celebrating Rog’s birthday with a family BBQ at our place. To top the day off, we headed up to the Lake of the Pines for a Fourth of July BBQ and fireworks at the Adamsons. It was a busy weekend, with a neighborhood brunch across the street on Sunday and then meeting the Blooms to watch the Roseville fireworks at the county fairgrounds on Monday night. The following weekend, I met my three sisters for a “sister sleepover” in Old Town Sacramento. Peggy was down from Anchorage for her 50th high school reunion and the rest of us drove in. We spent Saturday night at the Holiday Inn and then spent most of Sunday walking around Old Town Sac.
Mid month, we went to Mike Sipe’s for a BBQ with Rog’s karate group. That was followed with a BBQ at Ryan and Beth’s to celebrate our July birthdays.
Rog pampered me on my birthday and then took me to the movies. We went to the Studio Movie Grill and saw “Pets”. This is the new style movie theater that serves a full menu of food and drinks so we had a leisurely lunch during the show.
I met my sister Laura in Elk Grove for lunch and a pedicure/manicure at Glam Nails. Rog came along and spent the time visiting his brother and family. Then Bev and Ed met us for a short visit before we headed back.
My usual hairdresser just had her second baby and isn’t available so I had to find a new place to go for a haircut. I tried DND Salon in Rocklin and she did a great razor cut. I am still getting used to the shorter length, but is is so much easier to take care of.
On the 24th, our long time friends came for brunch. Dick Byce and Jerry Duda have been friends of Rog’s since grade school. They came with their wives on their way to the Duda ranch in Grass Valley. A great visit after many years of not seeing them. Dick and Judy have moved back to the mainland from Hawaii and now live outside of Seattle.
With the high heat of July, we took a cool day off to camp overnight at Lodgepole Campground with Jim and Ellen Nordstrum. I surprised myself taking a long hike including a steep hill and rough terrain. Not bad for an old lady.
This was a month of auto maintenance. Tess got her tires rotated and balanced at Costco, then went in for an oil change at Holt’s. Then we took the Chevy in for an oil change and ended up needing a new catalytic converter. Ugh…. But both are running smoothly now.
The grandkids had an overnight here at the beginning of the month so we had a bonfire, movie and played games. With summer vacation, we had a full month of projects. We made folding animals, flexible fish, and had water gun races.
We also got to watch Karissa at the dance class she started this summer....
The date this month was to iFly with Max. The three of us took turns indoor skydiving. We gave some of our time to Max and even paid for an extra trip to the top of the tube. It was an absolute blast. So nice to have grandkids as an excuse to do these fun things!!
Even with the heat, Rog has continued the projects...Now working on the playhouse deck. He tore out the old deck and stairs and is de4signing a replacement. Sue, meanwhile continues her battle with weeds and plants.
