About Me

Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

November 2017

The weather is starting to get cooler and more fall-like. Rocklin has lots of trees that turn autumn shades and it is always nice to see the change of seasons. Unfortunately, our oak tree keeps us busy raking the front yard from now until the end of the year.

The month started out with Rog taking his first advancement class in Aikido, which he passed with flying colors.

This month, the grandkids had lots of minimum days for teacher conferences as well as full day vacations. So we had lots of opportunities to do projects. We made ice cream cone teepees and cornucopias, candy stuffed turkeys, and started cookie puzzles.

Karissa finally had her bike ride for her date this month. We found an easy trail from Rukhala Park up to Round Table Pizza on Sunset. The day of the ride was nice and sunny but when Rog pulled out our bikes, we both had flat tires. We borrowed Michelle’s tire pump but I had a special valve so we had to go to the bike shop for a connector. While Pops was cleaning out the valve and getting the tires pumped up, Karissa enjoyed watching old Popeye cartoons. By the time we were ready for the ride, it was lunchtime so we started at Round Table. Then we drove to the park and had our ride with a stop at the park to play for a while. It was a coolish day so instead of ice cream, Karissa opted for a Krispy Creme donut. Fun day!

Roseville Railfair was held at the county fairgrounds in the middle of the month. We paid our money and toured the buildings. Rog actually found some logging rail cars for his railroad and got inspired enough to make another tree. We were surprised at the amount of merchandise for sale and will probably make this an annual event.

We hosted Thanksgiving and had the kids come early for our family portrait. Everyone but me complains bitterly when I do this, but everyone is also glad that we preserve the memories annually. Rog deboned the turkey and cooked it on the grill. There were plenty of side dishes and we had probably the best Thanksgiving yet, as folks stuck around and chatted after the meal instead of rushing off.

Yardwork is slowing down with the cool weather, but I now get lots of rabbit manure from the Blooms so I make a compost tea about twice a week in addition to broadcasting the pellets on the front and back yards. We trimmed the grapes and grasses and have to rake and blow leaves every week. We are filling all 3 trash bins every week. But weeding is only every other week now. We did hire some guys to come and haul away the trash from the old retaining wall.

Socially, we continue to go to the movies every Tuesday. This month the Adamsons and Zauchas have joined us intermittently. The Sipes had us for a fabulous dinner and the Hawkinsons came to our place for turkey soup and pie.

Even projects have slowed down. Our new rental on Amber Falls is now rented, and the retaining wall is complete. Rog started a redo on the cabinet doors for the van. He wasn’t happy with how they were (weren’t) working, so tore them all down and tore them down. Now he is rebuilding them. With the cool weather, he has spent a lot more time working on genealogy with ancestry.com. He actually has coerced me to work with him, double teaming on the computers. I look up data on wikipedia while he works the software program. We are cleaning up some of the errors from before the middle ages. Amazing what a small relationship error will do. I actually find it a lot of fun. Rog is related to Charlemagne (his 34th great grandfather) and has traced his family back to the second century AD.
