About Me

Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

AUGUST 2018

Karissa had a theater performance at the beginning of the month. She was one of the children of Hannah in “The Saga of Sweet Hannah Sue or Nobody’s Perfek”. It was a real hoot and we had a hilarious time booing the villains and cheering the heroes. Karissa delivered her line perfectly and said she was not nervous at all. We followed it up with an ice cream at Baskin Robbins.

The first weekend of August, Rog travelled down to LA and Santa Barbara for his sensei’s birthday/retirement party with a few other black belts from his dojo. That left me to do special projects and visit my favorite thrift store for a bagful of goodies.
The second weekend, we babysat Princess while Ryan and Beth had their annual camping trip at Rollins. Nordstroms joined us for an afternoon game of cards followed with Japanese pancakes for dinner. On Saturday, we headed to the Rocklin Quarry for a Foghat concert. Brother in law, Tom Allen, used to play guitar with this band and they were inviting him to play a guest spot with them so of course we had to attend. My sisters Laura and Micki as well as niece Jennie and fiance, Jaime, also attended. What a blast. Felt like I was back in college again. Tom plays a fantastic guitar. What talent!

The third weekend was the wedding reception for Jenny and Jaime. My sister Peggy flew down from Anchorage on Friday with her husband, Corey, and they drove down to Tracy with us. Saw a lot of relatives and I have never seen Jennie so radiant. Good looking couple and they have plans for lots of travel adventures.

On Sunday, we drove Peggy and Corey back to the airport and then headed up to Grass Valley for dinner with the Hawkinsons.

The last weekend was Karissa’s birthday. She turned eight and planned an ocean themed birthday. She made a sea turtle costume for herself and made tickets and decorations for everyone. Eric tossed a chicken alfredo pasta dinner and Michelle made a cake in gradations of blue with gummy sea creatures decorating the frosting. We gave Karissa the Hatchimal she has been asking for and it was quite the conversation grabber. The hit of the party was Beth who arrived with a clear umbrella with streamers and eyes...she was a jellyfish.

We had the grandkids over for a number of crafts. We made eggshell geodes, gelatin roll ups, frozen yogurt drops, and Harry Potter wands.

We visited the baby rabbits as they quadrupled in size this month.

We took Max to see “Alpha” at Studio Movie Grill, then to Young Artists at the Galleria. He had a 45 minute session using water pastels and made a gorgeous ocean sunset landscape. We finished off with a hamburger at Krush Burger.

It was back to school on August 15….another summer has flown by. Both kids seem thrilled with their new teachers and things are off to a good start.

In the projects department, I continue to fight moles in the front yard and a raccoon in the back. The raccoon destroyed our grape harvest. He didn’t even eat all of them; we found grapes scattered all over the walkway. We did manage to get about 1 small bowlful from our 4 vines.

Meanwhile, Rog is making progress on the shed he is building on the side of the house. We had unseasonably cooler weather the last half of August and the nights cooled down to the low 60’s so it has been fabulous weather. Unfortunately, there have been numerous fires that leave the air smokey and even covered the cars with ash one morning. Sad to see the devastation.
