About Me

Rog and Sue Lloyd sold their home in Meadow Vista, CA in July, 2005 and enjoyed life aboard their catamaran NEOS for eight years. They sailed the 48 foot catamaran throughout the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast from Ecuador to Mexico. Neos was sold in July of 2013 and Rog and Sue returned to life on land. They are now settled in Rocklin, CA close to family and contemplating how they will spend their future as CLODs; cruisers living on dirt.

March 2019

We decided to take a trip to Truckee and see all of the snow that has been dumped on the summit. Recent measurements show the snowpack at 160% of normal and it is still getting snow. Squaw predicts it will be open until the 4th of July. So we wanted to take a look-see. The snowline was at Baxter and it is absolutely gorgeous. We walked the “tourist main” in Truckee and got to see some great icicles up close. Rog got some inspiration from the railroad depot and then we headed to the world’s greatest hardware store. If you are ever in Truckee and want to see a store that has it ALL..check out the Ace Hardware there. Always fun to prowl the aisles. Enjoyed our trip.

The following weekend was the Funraiser at my sister’s place. The Kings host an annual Funraiser with Ry, Michelle et al and each couple brings a homemade brew to share with everyone. We made our typical kahlua, Eric brewed a cider, Beth made a whiskey drink and Brian shared a bottle of some Mexican brew. We had a potluck dinner and enjoyed our day.

We had some friends over for St. Patrick’s Day dinner and swapped travel ideas. They are interested in going to Japan so we gave them all of our info. In exchange, they shared their stories of Italy and Poland.

Rog has been spending many rainy days working on his model railroad, building mountains, tunnels, and waterfalls. Meanwhile, I hit spring cleaning; walls, baseboards and cupboards. On sunny days I actually got some trimming and composting done and Rog got the last few trees pruned.

For her date this month, we took Karissa to the Jelly Belly Factory near Fairfield. What a blast! We paid out the bucks for the tour and had a nice guide who kept all of us entertained. Many things surprised us...like how long it takes to make a jelly belly (up to 2 weeks!) and that the “mold” is actually compressed cornstarch. From Fairfield, we came back to Loomis for lunch at Taylor’s. So we went from a place that made over 60 flavors of jelly bellies to a place that made over 300 flavors of milkshakes. And their burgers are pretty good too!

Our craft day with the kids was planned to be painting rainbow swirls for St. Patrick’s Day. They each went on different tangents and ended up with their own unique craft. Max ended up with a miniature swirl and Karissa made a cat mask.

We ended the month celebrating Ryan and Beth’s birthdays at the Rock Hill Winery for a wine pairing dinner. Don, the winemaker, was his usual crazy best and entertained us throughout the evening. Food was good, wine was excellent and the company a whole bunch of fun. Ryan even pulled my ticket for a free bottle of wine in the raffle.
