We started the month off with a birthday party. Max turned 13 and had a hastily arranged party when his snow camp was cancelled. There was quite a blizzard and avalanche warnings so we were able to have the party on his actual birthday. Meanwhile, snow camp has been rescheduled for March. We enjoyed shredded pork tacos and ice cream sandwiches. Nice to have a teenager around again. It has been a while!
We gave both kids a whale watching boat trip last Christmas and they ended up going out on the same boat at the same time. Michelle and Eric bought tickets for the kids as well, so they all headed down to Moss Landing while I stayed home dog sitting. Princess stayed with me for a couple of days and I went over to visit Scout a couple of times during the day. Meanwhile, Rog headed down to Santa Barbara with Mike for the annual Black Belt Meeting at the main dojo.
Rog and I took in the Autorama this year and the first person we ran into was our old friend from high school days, Danny. He was showing his car, the Wild Orchid. We caught up with him at the end of our explorations and he proudly showed off his car as well as the cars his new employer had a hand in.
The grandkids had a full week off in mid February and came over for a project midweek. We did finger knitting. Both kids were fighting a bug; Max just getting over it and Karissa just getting into it, so a nice calm craft was well received. After making ropes, we made some pom pom monsters.
We headed down to Tracy to pick up a speaker from the Allens. They are selling their home and business and heading to Connecticut where they have already bought acreage and are building a new home. Part of the plans include a nice music studio so Tom is sprucing up “Leslie”; a five foot tall speaker with a smaller speaker on top. It needs new grill fabric and some woodwork. We took the small speaker which required the most wood repair and will return in a month to put everything together. They will do the cleaning and painting. Should be able to knock out some gnarly music sounds with his setup!
We had a surprise visitor this month. We came home from the gym and noticed that one of the garbage cans was knocked over and the pile of junk lumber next to it was no longer neatly stacked. When we got inside, we saw the culprit. A young doe was caught in the backyard. She had no intention of going into the side yards which would have worked fine. Instead, she kept trying to get over ther back fence which was much more difficult due to the slope. She also tried our side gate which is probably how she got in. But with the can and lumber all over, she couldn’t get out that way. She was getting pretty nervous so we opened the side gate for her and left to do some shopping. By the time we got back, she had found her way out.
Max had his dinner-date with us at Tahoe Joe’s. We had forgotten how pricey that place was! Haven’t been there for years. Max had his dinner-date with us at Tahoe Joe’s. We had forgotten how pricey that place was! Haven’t been there for years. Max also had a Court of Honor and got his Star rank, a green tie slide, and new Journey to Excellence badge.
The following week we celebrated another successful term completion for Michelle with breakfast at Huckleberry’s. She is on the final year and is loving it. Quite proud of that girl!!
The rest of the month was spent on sewing projects (I made 2 blouses), gardening on the few days the rain let up (Rog got the 2 smaller eucalyptus trees pruned to the stumps and I picked up wind pruned oak tree sticks and branches NUMEROUS times), model railroad additions (more trestles, mountains and layout details), medical appts (final Shingrix for Rog and vaccines for me) and oil changes for both vehicles.
Looking forward to some drier and warmer weather!!
