The month started off with the annual Kentucky Derby Party at Micki and Brian’s home. Max was away at his BSA Snow Campout but everyone else was there. Crazy race with my winning pick being disqualified.
The following Monday, Vargas Excavation came and took all of our old cement and rock pile away. It took him the whole day but we now have a driveway back.
The same day, we took Tess into the MB here in Rocklin for her new computer module. The mechanic tried to get us to have a new diagnostic done, but we went ahead with the replacement. Bad move. By Wednesday, the engine light was back on. So on Thursday, our guy at Holt’s Automotive switched the first and second injectors and redid the diagnostic: still showing the same error code, which means the injectors are fine. So back to MB. They found a chink in the wire attached to the first injector and replaced it. We took another trip to Santa Barbara for Rog’s training workshop and VOILA!! No problems. It was an expensive fix, but hopefully we have nailed it.
Meanwhile, back at the deck, Rog started laying down the block border. Then the weather took a turn and we had 10 days of rain and mud. No way we can even step on that wet clay, so we will have to wait for it to dry out.
We turned our focus back to Tess now that she is running well. One of the tail lights went out a couple of months back. They are replaced from the inside so that means removing the cabinetry. While we are at it, we will replace the countertops and stove and do some minor modifications. The cabinet removal was actual easier than we expected. Rog went to RCI cabinets to get a quote for new corian tops and the original bid was about $2K. I asked her for a new bid if we installed it and she never got back to me. Meanwhile, we took a trip to ReStore and found a piece of white corian about 44” x 72” for $65. Sold. By the end of the month, Rog had the pieces cut and was starting to finish them off. They are turning out super nice.
Max had a school music concert mid month. The replacement band instructor had only been on the job for eight days, but they all sounded great. Well done!
In Aikido, Karissa completed her first testing session and now has her first stripe. Another well done!!
We got to have an overnight with Max and Karissa while their folks went to Napoli for a cooking class. Always fun to have them around. We got in a game of Apples to Apples as well as Mad.
Mother’s Day was spent at the Blooms’ for a relaxing afternoon. Michelle wrote me a poem and Ryan gave me tulips. Eric BBQ’d meat and vegetable skewers and the guys made salads. Nice afternoon. Oh ya; Rog gave me a warming plate for my tea. :)
The monthly training to Santa Barbara was smoother this month. Tess ran great. We arrived in Santa Barbara by 3 and relaxed, then went to their Fri Night dinner for seafood skewers. Rog had a workout both Sat and Sun, then we drove back on Monday. On the way home, we took a side trip to Solvang. While we were walking around there, we found the shade design we want to replicate for our back deck. Took a bunch of pictures.
