August 2019
Three grandkid days to start the month. Max had a therapy appointment so we took Karissa to the movies and then traded places with Michelle and Max when they showed up. Then we had both grandkids for the morning while Michelle had to work.. We even had Princess for the weekend while Ryan and Beth had their annual camping trip. Then we took Max on his date to see Toy Story 4 with lunch at Don Quixote’s. We skipped the monthly craft project. Hard to find things Max can do with one hand.
Rog went to Santa Barbara with the Redding dojo for a kata demo at the end of Nisei Week in LA and then to a training at the dojo in Santa Barbara. The following weekend he pulled security detail at ARD for their food truck event.
Time for the new school year!!
Michelle has completed another quarter and maintained her perfect grade point average, so we had breakfast together to celebrate at Mimosa House. Well done!
August is Karissa’s birthday month and she had all of us over for dinner and presents. We had her favorite dinner: pasta with a yummy ice cream sandwich dessert. We gave her an MP3 player with her favorite songs downloaded on it.
The back deck project continues. Rog and I got all nine footings poured with base posts in place. Then we had 7.5 cubic yards of base rock and another cubic yard of gravel delivered to our driveway. We rented a front loader from Home Depot and spent 3 hours spreading the base rock. It is now ready for sand and pavers.
But projects will have to wait until next month because we are ready to vacation. We spent a while getting the van ready. Rog caulked everything on the roof and replaced the vent cover. I cleaned everything inside. The day before we left, the blinds arrived. Rog was sweet enough to help me install the two front blinds. They are Ventana top down/bottom up blinds and they sure look sharp!! Since the window has rounded corners, we placed blackout film along the sides to give us complete privacy. It looks much better than the shades we have used for the last 3 years.
On Aug 26, we took off for a visit to friends in Montana and then drove with them to Seattle to take a cruise to Alaska on the Princess Star. See the separate log posted just before this monthly log to get that recap!
