The month started off with a celebration for our talented daughter who finished her baccalaureate at Arizona State University. She texted when she finished her last class and we drove over to give her a celebratory hug and the needlepoint I had done for her. The following Tuesday, we went out to our last breakfast celebration with her. So proud of her!! And magna cum laude!!! Now she is facing an even harder prospect as she searches for a job. All in due time.
Our neighbors held their annual holiday party and we had a chance to talk with a lot of the neighbors we usually just wave to. Marilyn’s house was decorated to the hilt, as usual. She does such an outstanding job.
Rog and I celebrated our 49th anniversary with an early dinner at Claim Jumpers. Delicious! And Rog came home from Aikido carrying a dozen red roses. My guy:)
Rog also took a break from the model railroad to make a prototype cutting board. He inlaid some specialty woods into a “butcher blocked” piece of poplar. I love it. He will be making changes, but I am happy with his rejects.
We took Karissa to Frozen 2 for her date this month. We had lunch at Olive Garden and then to Studio Movie Grill.
Our craft with the grandkids was a lot of fun. We made peppermint taffy and it turned out great. I had visions of it taking hours, but the recipe we used needed only about 30 minutes of pulling. They went home with a bagful of taffy.
The next day was the Solstice. I made sunbread and we went to the Blooms for the bonfire. It was a perfect evening. No wind or rain. The fire was warm and the stew absolutely scrumptious. The next morning we went over again for opening presents. They were all pretty pooped from the night before since they stayed up until past midnight.
Now it was time for Rog and I to get ready for Christmas dinner. We picked up the prime rib, deboned the turkey and put it in the brine, and got the house ready. We opened our presents to each other on Christmas Eve. Rog got me a Neato vacuum robot that was DOA. We tried everything and it just would not charge or connect. On Christmas morning, we went to Ryan and Beth’s for breakfast and opened gifts with them. It was a very relaxing morning. Then back to our house to get the meal ready. All 11 showed up at 3pm and we ate at 5. By 9, dishes were done and the house was back to normal. A super holiday.
I contacted Neato the next day and they sent me info on returning the robot. As soon as they receive it. They will ship a replacement. Kind and efficient...good customer service.
At the end of the month, we left on a one week camping trip with our friends the Lyons and Nordstroms. We spent an overnight in Bakersfield, then headed to Prescott, with one overnight in Needles. Prescott was literally freezing and our little;le propane heater just couldn't hack it, so we ran to WalMart and bought an electric unit. We were warm and toasty for the rest of the trip. Judy has always wanted to see the light display in Prescott and we had dinner at the local saloon, then walked around the courthouse. We were there o n New Year’s Eve, but didn’t even make it to the 9pm drop of the cowboy boot much less the midnight show. The next day we drove to Jerome and walked around, visiting the shops. Then it was on to Vegas where we spent 2 nights at the Oasis. We saw the Cirque de Soleil “O” at the Bellagio. Then one more overnight at the Orange Grove in Bakersfield (where we got plenty of fresh oranges) and on home. I’m not much for cold weather camping, but we had a great time.
AND my new Neato arrived the day we got home. Perfect timing. This one works and keeps Rog entertained watching it do its thing:)
